What You Should Know About Macular Degeneration in Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Treatment for Macular Degeneration: Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment What are the causes of Macular Degeneration other than ageing?

Macular Degeneration is not only caused by ageing. It can also be genetic. This is why it's important to check your family tree. Macular Degeneration is also caused by smoking.

What is Macular Degeneration (Macular Degeneration)?

Macular Degeneration, also known as Age Related Macular Degeneration(AMD), is a condition which blurs the central vision. The macula (the part of the eye that is responsible for sharp and clear vision) can be damaged by aging or any other factor.

AMD is the leading cause of visual impairment among older adults. It may not lead to blindness but it can make it difficult for you to read, drive, or do household chores like fixing things in your home.

Degeneration can happen very slowly for some and much more quickly for others. Early AMD can cause no vision loss. Regular eye exams are important to detect AMD.

What are the Risk Factors of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?

Your risk of AMD increases as you age. People over 55 are more likely to develop AMD. It usually occurs in people who:

  • Macular degeneration runs in your family

  • Smoking

  • Obesity, weight issues and related issues

  • Cardiac problems

What are the different types of Macular Degenerations?

Age-related macular degeneration can be classified into two different types:

1.Dry Macular Degeneration Atrophic AMD is the most common type of AMD. The macula thins out as we age. Dry AMD can be classified into three stages: early, intermediate or late. The disease often develops slowly and over a long period of time. There are some ways to improve your vision if you have late dry AMD. If you have only one eye with late dry AMD, then your other eye can be protected.

2.Wet Macular Degeneration Wet AMD, also known as advanced Neovascular AMD, is a less-known form of late AMD that causes greater vision loss. Wet AMD may occur at any stage, but is usually the later stage. It occurs when abnormal blood vessel formation behind the eye causes damage to the macula. Wet AMD can be treated in many ways.

How can you naturally treat age-related macular degeneration?

There is hope for you or someone close to you who suffers from Macular Degeneration. If you are at high-risk of AMD because of your age, family background or other factors, it is important to have regular eye examinations. Early AMD does not have any symptoms, so do not wait until you notice changes in your vision. Does Macular Degneration cause blindness?

Macular Degeneration, although it may not cause complete blindness in all cases, can still lead to the loss of vision.
